V\u00f5su k\u00fclje all asus varem selge allikaveega madal, kuid kalarikas j\u00e4rv. Praegu on j\u00e4\u00e4nud sellest vaid legend. T\u00f5rvam\u00e4e alt voolas mere poole palju selge veega allikaid, kuni nad soolases vees olematuks muutusid. Allikad tahtsid aga kokku j\u00e4\u00e4da, et \u00fchiselt j\u00e4rveks saada. Nad p\u00f6\u00f6rdusid selle palvega Vetevana poole. Vetevana andiski loa, kuid tingimusel, et j\u00e4rv oleks vaikne r\u00f5\u00f5mu- ja puhkepaik nii loodusele kui ka inimestele. Kui aga j\u00e4rve p\u00e4rast peaks t\u00fcli tekkima, lubas ta j\u00e4rve merre lasta. Allikad n\u00f5ustusid r\u00f5\u00f5msalt selle tingimusega. Vetevana t\u00f5kestas allikate tee mere suunas ja nii hakkaski j\u00e4rv tekkima. Id\u00fcll kestis, kuni Eestimaa jagati v\u00f5\u00f5rast p\u00e4ritolu m\u00f5isnike vahel. \u00dcllikj\u00e4rv j\u00e4i Sagadi, Palmse ja Kavastu m\u00f5isa maadele. 17. sajandil l\u00e4ksid m\u00f5isnikud kalastus\u00f5iguse p\u00e4rast t\u00fclli, k\u00e4idi kohutki. In earlier days a clear spring water filled the lake, shallow and yet rich in fish, which sat right next to V\u00f5su. Now only legend remains to describe it: from beneath Tar Hill (\u2018T\u00f5rvam\u00e4gi<\/i>\u2019 in Estonian) a good many springs of clear water flowed towards the sea, only to disintegrate into the saline water once they were there. The springs, as it were, wanted to remain together so that they could become one in a lake. They brought their case before the Old Water Spirit (\u2018Vetevana<\/i>\u2019 in Estonian). The Old Water Spirit gave his permission to the springs, but only on the condition that the lake should be a quiet place of joy and rest for nature and humans alike. However, should the lake give rise to any quarrel, the spirit would let the lake out into the sea. The springs happily accepted these terms. The Old Water Spirit cut off the way to the sea for the springs and, lo and behold, a lake began to emerge. As the agreement for pureness and amiability served a noble cause, the spirit named the new lake \u00dcllikj\u00e4rv (\u2018\u00fcllas<\/i>\u2019 being Estonian for \u2018noble\u2019, and \u2018j\u00e4rv\u2019 being the Estonian word for \u2018lake\u2019). The lake kept its pledge to the Old Water Spirit. For centuries the body of water led a peaceful life. This atmosphere of harmony lasted until Estonia was divided between foreign estate owners. Lake \u00dcllikj\u00e4rv extended through the lands of Sagadi, Palmse, and Kavastu manors. In the seventeenth century, the estate owners fell out over fishing rights, finally taking their argument to the courts. The Old Water Spirit\u2019s bargain had been broken – he opened up a ditch on the sea-facing side of Lake \u00dcllikj\u00e4rv and let the lake\u2019s water flow into the sea. The ditch in Jaanioja through which the water was allowed to flow into the sea and a swamp that marks the deepest spot in the former lake are the only remnants today of the once glorious Lake \u00dcllikj\u00e4rv.\u00a0<\/span>Locals also tell this following tale: an estate owner had a canal dug from the lake all the way to the sea to drain the lake because a number of animals from his herd had got stuck in the mud of Lake \u00dcllikj\u00e4rv. The roar of the flowing water had been loud enough to be heard on the other side of the village, and all the way to Lepispea. The manor\u2019s workers had been allowed to gather a sizeable catch of fish. After this, the estate owner had hayfields established where the lake had once been. The area is now called J\u00e4rveheinamaa (Estonian for \u2018Lake Hayfield\u2019<\/i>).\u00a0The estate owners of Palmse and Sagadi went to court around 1650 over issues that were related to Lake \u00dcllikj\u00e4rv\u2019s borders and about fishing rights on the lake because Sagadi\u2019s estate owner desired the entire lake for himself. Later, the estate owner at Kavastu intervened and joined forces with Palmse\u2019s estate owner in his endeavours to leave Sagadi\u2019s owner altogether lakeless. Old maps indicate that, following these events, the lake was divided in half between Sagadi and Palmse manors. It is not known when the whole lake became Palmse\u2019s property, but in 1861 the young Baron Pahlen of Palmse decided to drain the lake into the sea and reclaim the land beneath.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Direkt neben V\u00f5su hat es fr\u00fcher einen seichten, jedoch fischreichen See mit klarem Quellenwasser gegeben. Heute ist nur eine Legende \u00fcbrig geblieben. Unter dem T\u00f5rvam\u00e4gi sind viele Quellen mit klarem Wasser in Richtung Meer hervor geflossen, bis sie im salzigen Wasser verflossen sind. Die Quellen wollten aber zusammen bleiben, um gemeinsam ein See zu werden. Sie haben sich mit dieser Bitte an das Wasserm\u00e4nnchen gewandt. Das Wasserm\u00e4nnchen hat zugesagt, jedoch unter der Bedingung, dass der See ein ruhiger Freuden- und Erholungsort sowohl f\u00fcr die Natur als auch die Menschen sein soll. Sollte aber wegen des Sees ein Streit entstehen, versprach er, den See ins Meer abflie\u00dfen zu lassen. Die Quellen waren freudig mit dieser Bedingung einverstanden. Das Wasserm\u00e4nnchen hat den Weg der Quellen in Richtung Meer abgesperrt und so begann der See zu entstehen. Weil die Vereinbarung \u00fcber Reinheit und Freundlichkeit ein edles Ziel getragen hat, hat das Wasserm\u00e4nnchen den See \u00dcllikj\u00e4rv genannt. Der See hat das dem Wasserm\u00e4nnchen gegebene Versprechen gehalten. Jahrhundertelang hat er ein ruhiges Leben gef\u00fchrt. Die Idylle hat angedauert, bis Estland unter den Gutsherren fremder Herkunft aufgeteilt wurde. \u00dcllikj\u00e4rv ist auf dem Grundbesitz der Gutsh\u00f6fe Sagadi, Palmse und Kavastu geblieben. Im 17. Jahrhundert haben sich die Gutsherren wegen des Fischfangrechts verzankt, man ist auch vor Gericht gegangen. Die Bedingungen des Wasserm\u00e4nnchens wurden verletzt und so hat er einen Graben an der Meeresseite von \u00dcllikj\u00e4rv ge\u00f6ffnet und das Wasser des Sees ins Meer flie\u00dfen lassen. An \u00dcllikj\u00e4rv erinnert der Graben am Jaanioja, durch den das Wasser ins Meer gelassen wurde und der Sumpf, der die tiefste Stelle des Sees kennzeichnet.\u00a0<\/span>Der Volksmund erz\u00e4hlt auch eine solche Geschichte, dass der Gutsherr einen Kanal vom See ins Meer graben und den See entleeren gelassen habe, weil mehrere Tiere seiner Viehherde im Schlamm von \u00dcllikj\u00e4rv steckengeblieben seien. Das Brausen des flie\u00dfenden Wassers sei so laut gewesen, dass es bis auf der anderen Seite des Dorfs, bis Lepispea zu h\u00f6ren gewesen war. Man habe es den Gutshofarbeitern erlaubt, den gro\u00dfen Fang aufzulesen. Nachdem habe der Gutsherr anstelle des Sees Felder anlegen lassen. Heute tr\u00e4gt die Gegend den Namen J\u00e4rveheinamaa.\u00a0Die Gutsherren von Palmse und Sagadi sind wegen der Grenzen von \u00dcllikj\u00e4rv und des Fischfangrechts etwa um das Jahr 1650 vor Gericht gegangen, weil der Gutsherr von Sagadi den gesamten See f\u00fcr sich haben wollte. Sp\u00e4ter hat der Gutsherr von Kavastu eingeschritten, der zusammen mit dem Gutsherrn von Palmse dem Gutsherrn von Sagadi den See entziehen wollte. Aufgrund einer alten Karte ist es bekannt, dass der See sp\u00e4ter zwischen Sagadi und Palmse je zur H\u00e4lfte aufgeteilt war. Es ist nicht bekannt, wann der See g\u00e4nzlich an Palmse gegangen ist, jedoch hat der junge Baron Pahlen von Palmse im Jahr 1861 beschlossen, den See ins Meer flie\u00dfen lassen und den Grund und Boden zu entw\u00e4ssern.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
