Hobuserauakujulist K\u00e4smu lahte varjab ida- ja l\u00e4\u00e4netuulte eest kaks suurt poolsaart, ainult harvad p\u00f5hjatuuled p\u00e4\u00e4sevad V\u00f5su randa. K\u00e4smu poolsaar l\u00f5peb kaugele merre ulatuva Saartneeme saarega. Saart hakati n\u00f5ukogude ajal nimetama Kuradisaareks \u2013 ehk seet\u00f5ttu, et vene keeles k\u00f5lab \u201csaart\u201d nagu \u201ct\u0161ort\u201d, mis t\u00e4hendab kuradit. 19. sajandi l\u00f5pus kujunes V\u00f5su suvitajate meelispaigaks \u2013 valge liivaga rand, puhas \u00f5hk ja lummavad p\u00e4ikeseloojangud meelitavad puhkajaid siiani. Rannas ja Lipum\u00e4e veerel olid k\u00f5lakojad, kus peeti pidusid, esitati operette ja n\u00e4idendeid, esines k\u00fcla laulukoor ja tantsuring, tantsumuusikat tegi V\u00f5su tulet\u00f5rje puhkpilliorkester. Kord, pidustuste aegu, pidas V\u00f5su rannam\u00e4nnikus k\u00f5ne ka Eesti \u00fchiskonnategelane ja keeleteadlane Jakob Hurt. Tsaariajal suvitajate endi asutatud V\u00f5su Heakorra Selts hoolitses supelmajakeste, sildade, laudk\u00f5nniteede, t\u00e4navate ja metsaaluste korrashoiu eest. Hiljem t\u00f6\u00f6tas rannas rannavaht, kellel oli \u00f5igus trahvida iga\u00fcht, kes seal prahti maha viskas. Ranna\u00e4\u00e4rne mets oli t\u00e4is pinke, kus daamid ja h\u00e4rrad mere- ja m\u00e4nniku\u00f5hku hingamas k\u00e4isid. P\u00e4ikesevanne ei v\u00f5etud, sest p\u00e4evitunud nahka peeti matslikuks. Enne esimest maailmas\u00f5da veeti suplejad merre hobuvankritele p\u00fcstitatud supelmajades. Suplemiseks m\u00e4\u00e4rati erinevad kellaajad meestele, naistele ja teenijaskonnale, lubavat aega n\u00e4itas vastav lipumasti t\u00f5mmatud lipp. Laste jaoks oli t\u00e4histatud oma koht. Hiljem leidis rohket kasutamist Eduard Langsepa vannimaja, kus peale soojade merevannide sai tellida ka mudavanne, samuti ravivanne n\u00f5geste, m\u00e4nnikasvude ja sipelgatega. 1944. aastal lammutas piirivalve vannimaja maha.\u00a0<\/span>Madalap\u00f5hjaliste laevade randumiseks oli ehitatud pikk s\u00fcgavale lahte ulatuv sild. Hiliss\u00fcgisel v\u00f5eti see lahti ja kevadel seati uuesti kokku. Reisilaevad ei sildunud, vaid seisid merel ankrus. Two large peninsulas shield the horseshoe-shaped K\u00e4smu Bay (\u2018K\u00e4smu laht<\/i>\u2019 in Estonian) from both easterly and westerly winds; only the relatively infrequent northerlies can strike V\u00f5su beach itself. At the farthest tip of K\u00e4smu peninsula is the island of Saartneeme (a distorted form of \u2018island cape\u2019 in Estonian) which extends far into the sea. During the Soviet era the island began to be known as the Devil\u2019s Island (\u2018Kuradisaar<\/i>\u2019 in Estonian), perhaps because \u2018saart<\/i>\u2019, an inclination form of the Estonian word \u2018saar<\/i>\u2019 (\u2018island\u2019), sounds like the Russian word for \u2018devil\u2019 which is pronounced \u2018tchort<\/i>\u2019. At the end of the nineteenth century, V\u00f5su emerged as a favourite spot for holidaymakers – the white sandy beach, clean air, and mesmerising sunsets lure visitors to V\u00f5su to this day. Bandstands stood on the beach and on the slopes of Flag Hill (\u2018Lipum\u00e4gi<\/i>\u2019 in Estonian) where parties were held and operettas and plays were put on, the village choir and dance club took to the stage, and V\u00f5su Fire-Fighter\u2019s Brass Orchestra (\u2018V\u00f5su tulet\u00f5rje puhkpilliorkester<\/i>\u2019 in Estonian) played dance music. Once, during the festivities, the famous Estonian public figure and linguist, Jakob Hurt, gave a speech in the seaside pine grove in V\u00f5su. The V\u00f5su Maintenance Association (\u2018V\u00f5su Heakorra Selts<\/i>\u2019 in Estonian), which had been founded by actual holidaymakers during the tsarist era, took care of local bathing houses, bridges, wooden walkways, streets, and the forest floor. Later, coastguards were employed on the beach with the right to fine anyone who engaged in littering. The seaside forest was filled with benches that were engaged by ladies and gentlemen who were enjoying a sip or two of the sea air or that of the pine grove. Sunbathing was a no-no as tanned skin was considered boorish. Before the First World War, bathers were transported into the sea in bathing huts which were mounted on horse-pulled carriages. Different times for bathing were set separately for men, women, and servants, and these were indicated by the relevant flag being hoisted. Children bathed in their own designated area. In later times, Eduard Langsepp\u2019s bath house was widely used in which, in addition to warm sea baths, one could order mud baths as well as therapeutic baths with nettle, pine sprouts, and ants. In 1944, the coast guard demolished the bath house.\u00a0<\/span>For the purpose of shallow-bottomed ships coming ashore, a long pier had been built which extended far into the bay. In late autumn it was disassembled only to be reassembled again in the spring. Cruise ships did not dock here but instead remained at anchor in the shallow bay. Visitors were transported out to and from these ships on horse-drawn carriages and, later, in boats.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Die hufeisenf\u00f6rmige Bucht K\u00e4smu wird durch zwei gro\u00dfe Halbinseln vor Ost- und Westwinden abgeschirmt, nur seltene Nordwinde erreichen den Strand V\u00f5su.\u00a0<\/span>Die Halbinsel K\u00e4smu endet mit der weit in die See hinein erstreckenden Insel Saartneeme. In der Sowjetzeit hat man begonnen, die Inselt Teufelsinsel zu nennen, vielleicht weil \u201esaart\u201c auf Russisch wie \u201etschort\u201c klingt, was Teufel bedeutet. Zum Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde V\u00f5su zum Lieblingsort f\u00fcr Sommerg\u00e4ste \u2013 Strand mit wei\u00dfem Sand, reine Luft und verzaubernde Sonnenunterg\u00e4nge locken Urlauber bis heute an. Am Strand und am Hang des Lipum\u00e4gi waren Tonhallen, wo Feste gefeiert, Operetten und Schauspiele aufgef\u00fchrt wurden, der Gesangchor und Tanzzirkel des Dorfes aufgetreten sind, Tanzmusik wurde vom Blasorchester der Feuerwehr V\u00f5su gemacht. Einmal hat w\u00e4hrend der Feierlichkeiten im Kiefernwalt am Strand von V\u00f5su auch der gesellschaftliche Akteur und Sprachwissenschaftler Jakob Hurt eine Rede gehalten. Die in der Zarenzeit von den Sommerg\u00e4sten selbst gegr\u00fcndete Gesellschaft f\u00fcr kommunale Ordnung V\u00f5su k\u00fcmmerte sich um die Pflege der Badeh\u00e4uschen, Br\u00fccken, Brettergehwege, Stra\u00dfen und Waldgegenden. Sp\u00e4ter hat am Strand ein Strandw\u00e4chter gearbeitet, der das Recht hatte, jeden zu bestrafen, der dort M\u00fcll auf den Boden geworfen hat. Der Wald am Strand war voller B\u00e4nke, wo Damen und Herren Meer- und Kiefernluft atmen gingen. Es wurden keine Sonnenb\u00e4der genommen, weil gebr\u00e4unte Haut f\u00fcr b\u00e4uerlich gehalten wurde. Vor dem ersten Weltkrieg wurden Badeg\u00e4ste in den auf Pferdewagen errichteten Badeh\u00e4usern ins Meer gefahren. Zum Baden wurden f\u00fcr M\u00e4nner, Frauen und Dienerschaft separate Uhrzeiten festgelegt, die zugelassene Zeit wurde durch die jeweilige am Flaggenmast gehisste Flagge gezeigt. F\u00fcr Kinder war ihr eigener Ort ausgewiesen. Sp\u00e4ter hat das Badewannenhaus von Eduard Langsepp rege Nutzung gefunden, dort konnte man neben warmen Meeresb\u00e4dern auch Schlammb\u00e4der, ebenfalls Heilb\u00e4der mit Brennnesseln, Kiefernw\u00fcchsen und Ameisen bestellen. Im Jahr 1944 hat der Grenzschutz das Badewannenhaus abgerissen.\u00a0<\/span>F\u00fcr das Anlegen von Schiffen mit niedriger Schwimmtiefe war eine lange, weit in die Bucht erstreckende Br\u00fccke gebaut worden. Im Sp\u00e4therbst wurde es zerlegt und im Fr\u00fchjahr wieder zusammengebaut. Passagierschiffe haben nicht angelegt, sondern haben auf dem Meer Anker geworfen. Die G\u00e4ste wurden mit Pferdewagen, sp\u00e4ter mit Booten abgeholt und auf Schiffe gebracht.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
